Horizon Clubhouse has 5 units in the work ordered day :
Employment
Our primary goal in employment is to secure meaningful employment for all members who wish to work. We have two main avenues to employment:
Transitional Employment - Our TE program is ideal for members who wish to gain valuable work experience and confidence in their desired field. Our TE jobs usually require a commitment of 6 to 9 months and Horizon House provides backups for each position. Supported Employment - Our SE positions are a more permanent and specialized form of employment. Usually after completing one TE position, any member is eligible for a SE position. We have a wide variety these, usually focusing on the individual member's career goals. With all TE/SE job sites, we maintain a strong relationship with the managers so as to provide each member with the amount of support that they require.
Transportation - One of our most valued supports in the Career Unit is our transportation unit. Terry, our transportation coordinator, works to schedule rides for over 20 members at many different job sites in the area.
Membership/Education
Membership is the heart of Horizon Clubhouse. Membership responsibilities are: coordinating outreach efforts, transportation assistance, new member intakes, food pantry assistance, housing, helping with educational goals and keeping the Member Assistance packet updated. If you are interested in scheduling a tour or if you have any questions, please call our Membership Unit coordinator Megan.
Social
Our social program is always expanding, even more so because our Hospitality Unit has been able to pay for many trips. You may want to check out this month's Social Calendar to see what we have going on.
Hospitality
Our Hospitality Unit has grown quickly over a short period of time. Along with the recent addition of a new Hospitality coordinator came fantastic recipes and gourmet style meals. With the help of the Harvest program, we became affiliated with Longhorn Steakhouse in Reading. They make weekly donations of prime rib, steak tips and other delicious foods. This unit has become completely self sustaining and funds the social program.
Business and Administration
Got Business? We do it all in the Business Unit. The BAU is always buzzing with activity as members engage in all the clerical responsibilities of the club.
Staff and members work together to write and type articles for a 20 page monthly newsletter, 'On the Horizon'. We also publish a daily newsletter, 'The Suntimes' for in-house use.
In the BAU, members can develop skills working with computers, faxing, copying, interview techniques, and data entry. The dynamic collaboration of staff and members gets the work done!
Maintenance Unit
We would be in dire straights without the tireless efforts of our Maintenance Unit. If you would like to help out with the general upkeep of the clubhouse or just pitch in with some hard work, this is the unit for you!
